Annie Duke is one of the best female poker players if not the best. She has earned, from poker tournaments, the accumulated sum of almost four million dollars. She doesn't like the differentiation between women's and men's tournament because she sees no reason to do so in this kind of sport.
Biography
Annie Duke was born and raised in Concord, New Hampshire. she double majored in English and psychology at Columbia University. after that she went to graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania to study cognitive psychology. In 1991 she got married and in 1992, one month before defending her PHD work, she left the academy and moved to Columbus, Montana with her husband. In 1994 she tried her hand at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas and finish at the 13th place. After playing some more and winning great amounts of money, duke decided to move to Las Vegas to pursue poker professionally. These days she is a professional poker player and a single mother of four.
Achievements
Annie Duke is the leading money winner among women in World Series of Poker history. One famous time was when she was eight months pregnant with her third child and achieved 10th place and 10,000 dollars.
She came in second in Limit Hold'em in 1999 and 2003 at the World Series of Poker, second in the Omaha High Low at the Bellagio Five-Star World Poker Classic and sixth in the Omaha High Low at the 2003 World Series of Poker. She won her first World Series of Poker bracelet in 2004 at Omaha High-Low event. At September 2004 she won the ESPN World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions.
Not Just a Player
In 2005 Duke has released her autobiography called "Annie Duke: How I raised, folded, bluffed, flirted, cursed and won millions at the World Series of Poker" She has also worked with NBC on a sitcom based on her life as a single mother of four who plays professional poker. Duke have been tutoring actor Ben Affleck for the California State Poker Championship. At this Championship Affleck won 10,000 dollars.
