The game is played with a board with marked with 24 triangles called Points, twelve on both sides of the board. The triangles are alternately colored different colors and are consequently number 1 through 24. You have a 1 point and a 24th point, your 1 point being your opponents 24th point and vice versa.
The Object of the Game
The object of the game is to move your fifteen pieces, or men, into your home and then to bear them all off before your opponent does the same.
Setup
To setup backgammon, you place 2 men on your 24th point and your opponent places them opposite you by placing 2 men on his 24th point or your 1 point. Next place 5 on your 6th point and 3 more on your 8th point and then 5 more on your 13th point. Your opponents setup is exactly opposite from your setup.
To Play
Each player takes a die and rolls it, the higher number plays first. When playing you can only land on a space that is occupied by you, unoccupied or contains only one piece controlled by your opponent.
If you land on your opponents lone piece, you eat him, and he goes to the middle of the board. For you opponent to get him out, he must roll a number that has a free space in your 1 through 6th points to get out. If you have built buildings on several spots (two or more of your pieces together on the same point) then he must roll the dice and hope for a free spot. If the 2 and the 5 are empty or have just one piece in them, then he must roll a 2 or a 5 and only these, if he cannot remove his piece from the middle then he forfeits his roll and it is your turn.
This continues like this until one player has removed all of his pieces from the board and out of play.
