What is Caribbean Stud?
Unlike all the other poker games and variations that you are accustomed to playing online, this is not played against other players, but against the poker room or the house itself. You don't play against other sharp minds (such as yourself) but against a computer or dealer that has to abide by a fixed set of rules. In a way, this is like playing blackjack, and just like winning blackjack is relatively easy, so is it when playing Caribbean poker online.
How is it Played?
- To begin, you have to submit an ante, which is a set amount decided by the casino. The dealer puts this in too and then you are both given 5 cards. After looking at your cards and one of the dealer's cards, you will now have to decide from these three actions:
- Call the bet - this means betting the minimum amount according to the game you have chosen
- Fold and give up - if you do this you lose your ante to the house
- Raise your bet - you can raise it in multiples of the ante. Generally, most poker rooms allow raising it to twice the ante.
- Now all the cards are opened and compared, and then there can be two scenarios:
- For the house to be in the game, it must have at least an Ace or a King, it loses and you get your ante back plus an additional sum equal to the ante.
- If the house has a King or an Ace, then its hand is compared to yours. The stronger hand wins and takes the poker pot which is decided according to the sequence that has won.
Payouts :
When you win a hand, you will get money according to your winning hand and these ratios are as follows:
- Royal Flush = 100 to 1 (Ace, King, Queen, Jack and ten of the same suit)
- Straight Flush = 50 to 1 (5 consecutive cards of the same suit)
- 4 of a Kind = 20 to 1 (four cards of the same number but of different suits)
- Full House = 7 to 1 (3 of a kind and a Pair)
- Flush = 5 to 1 (five cards of the same suit)
- Straight = 4 to 1 (five consecutive cards of any suit)
- 3 of a Kind = 3 to 1 (three cards of the same nominator)
- 2 Pairs = 2 to 1 (a pair is two cards of the same number)
- 1 Pair or less = 1 to 1 (two cards of the same value)
If neither you nor the house has any of the above sequences, then the winner is decided according to the highest cards and the winner gets even money. If both you and the house have an identical sequence, then this is considered a tie and money doesn't switch hands, but is divided equally among the two.
