Howard Lederer
Howard is a professional poker player who is also known as "The Professor" because of his demeanor, analytical style and long history of wins. He is a talented poker player with a passion for games and a very pleasant temper at the poker table and in real life too.
Biography
Howard was born and raised in Concord, New Hampshire in a family of five including his sister, Annie Duke, who has also grown to become one of the leading poker players. Since a very young age he has been exposed to card games, including poker. Howard's father is Richard Lederer, a writer and linguist who taught at St. Paul's School in New Hampshire.
Later on Howard moved to New York City, where he attended Columbia University in a wish to join one of its chess clubs. At one of these clubs he discovered poker which pushed him to start playing at the Mayfair Club. These days, the club contained other young players such as Erik Seidel and Dan Harrington.
Howard left college to become a chess player, but instead of doing that he found himself drawn to the poker table. He started his poker journey by playing at night and making a living at day. After a while he began to make a living at the poker table and become a professional player.
Finally Howard moved to Las Vegas in 1994, where he sought out high stakes poker games. He taught his sister, Annie Duke, to play poker, and in time she has become an extremely successful player.
Achievements
Howard won the 2003 Party Poker Million Limit Hold'em, and also the Bellagio's World Poker Classic No Limit Holdem. He finished third at the Bellagio for Omaha HiLo and won World Series titles in $5000 Omaha 8 HiLo in 2000 and $5000 deuce to seven draw in 2001.
Howard has made a tutorial poker video called Secrets of No Limit Hold'em and he also runs the Howard Lederer Poker Fantasy Camp. He is one of the hosts of a tournament poker show for the Fox Broadcasting Company.
As of now, his total live tournament winnings exceed $2,700,000; He has won two World Series of Poker bracelets and also two World Poker Tour titles.
