Yesterday the police in
Taipei county Taipei Taiwan operated a raid on an illegal casino and arrested more than 80 people in the seize. The local authorities are concerned about the rise of illegal gambling in
China and in the areas of the Philippines and Vietnam.
The police said that the raid took place in a heavily populated area called Yong-Ho a somewhat non affluent neighborhood in Taipei. Local police also say that so far this year this is the largest illegal gaming network to have been shut down this year in the county of Taipei.
The orders went through to raid, with only enough force to handle no more than 50 customers inside the illegal casino, but when the 19 officers on the scene to handle any trouble arrived, they were reportedly shocked to find nearly one hundred people gambling illegally in the building.
According to a spokesman for the Taipei County Police the raid was executed smoothly and that there were also no injuries reported.
Along with the raid on the illegal casino, the police reported arresting some 83 persons involved with the illegal casino as well as confiscating millions of Taiwanese Dollars.
Police have had many informants when it comes to cracking down on these illegal casinos in and around the area. About every month or so, a new casino hits the scene and then the police shut it down, but due corruption within the police departments and the ease of bribes these casinos continue to pop up and this is the problem that the police are dealing with.
