A Senator from central Indiana is trying to pass a law that would make it mandatory for Casinos to give a breathalyzer test to any gamblers requesting a line of credit for $1,000 or more.
The Senator said he came up with the idea for Bill 31 after a man from Corbin KY was noticeably drunk and was able to obtain several advances from the casino worth a total of $75,000. the man sued the casino saying he should not be held responsible for the money which he lost in one evening due to the fact that he was nearly falling down drunk and had no idea what he was doing at the time.
The Senator said it should be illegal to serve the players free drinks then allow them to take many cash advances while they are under the influence of alcohol. Although it is already illegal in
Indiana for a casino to serve free alcohol, Bill 31 would make it illegal for any casino to give a line of credit over $1,000 to anyone without first testing there blood alcohol level, and only those deemed sober enough to accept the terms of the agreement will be allowed a larger line of credit.
The bill would stop the casinos from allowing players to take credit from the casino if there blood alcohol level is over 0.08 which is the same as the driving limit.
The bill still needs to be reviewed by the Senate Commerce, Public Policy and Interstate Cooperation Committee, to see if it is worthy of getting a hearing.
