Combating Cybercrime

The Combating Cybercrime Conference 2006 took place at Earls Court Conference Center.
This is not the first combating cybercrime conference, the first one ran in February 2005 and left a mark on the gambling market.

The event has been supported by RGA, Gamshild, Betting Business, Casino review, Gaming Business and Yogonet.com.

The conference dealt with issues such as identity theft, card fraud and money laundering in the betting gaming industry.

Emerging Threats

The opening discussion at the conference was by Dr. Andy Jones, BT Security Research, who started the first part of the conference about emerging threats. Dr. Jones talked about the developing of new mobile devices and the threat that their abuse could bring. Pete Wood, an ethical hacker, followed Dr. Jones and discussed the threat from application attacks. Howard Lamb, a specialist in the online gaming sector for the NHTCU, Closed the first part of the conference, with highlights of the threat of attacks, against organizations or networks.

Identity Theft

The second topic dealt at the conference has been about identity theft and card fraud. This part has been opened by Ed Puntnam , Finance Director ,& Lizzy Bell, Project Accountant and Compliance Manager at Skybet. Puntnam & Bell talked about implementing age verification.

Followed that ,Riten Gohil discussed combating fraud in remote gambling. Gohil is APACS lead on reducing fraud in the card not present environment. Greg Pierson and Jim Ryan in a joint presentation, explained how UltimateBet was hit by serious fraud and faced the danger of financial failure. For closing this part, Christine Magnowska focused on best practice in combating fraud.

Internet Gambling

Robert Dias discussed how operators can protect themselves from money launderers. Dias is a certified anti money laundering specialist and has carried out audits on internet poker companies.

Strategies for Protection

Kieron O'Brien, CEO of Packet Exchange , discussed the essential need for business continuity planning including realistic provisioning, controlling the negatives and scalable bandwidth.

Added Values

The conference has covered a lot of important issues, and opened a path for farther discussions in the future. An added value to the conference was the exhibition running alongside the conference.
