Premiership soccer clubs may have no choice but to end the profitable sponsorship deals with online gambling companies. The government has announced it is going to be investigating if the sponsorship deals between online casinos, and sportsbooks and soccer clubs are legal.
Tottenham Hotspur, Middlesbrough, Blackburn and Aston Villa are just a few of the Soccer clubs that have recently signed deals to have logos for online gambling companies on their teams shirts, it is this move that has certain
Members of the British Parliament and some other groups interested in these deals that effectively create loopholes in the laws to stop online casinos and gambling sites from targeting kids.
Under existing laws it is illegal for any gambling operators to target kids with their advertising, and when the gambling Act is officially in place as of September 2007 the fines for breaking these laws will increase dramatically.
The problem is that the law about sponsorship deals is much less clearer. Some legal experts are saying that when the teams put the logo for a casino on their shirts it is a marketing move dome to have more people see the casinos name, and when these shirts are replicated and sold in stores kids will by the shirts of their favorite teams and will them be wearing an advertisement for online casinos and sportsbooks.
