Playing poker at home and gambling on hundreds of dollars becomes a popular pastime activity recently. Many people are hosting in their living room Texas Holdem and Omaha games, which the bets can reach to hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
These home poker games are illegal, since the bets are higher than the state legal limit of 10 dollars. Still, the police are not paying attention to the phenomenon. Poker games that take place in private residents are not new, but since the popularity of poker grew, there are large amount of games and the hosts are competing with each other on players.
Home poker games became especially popular in areas that are far from legal casinos. According to Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling more people are using their problem gambling hotline for help, and almost one in five callers is about poker.
