The Vietnamese government is looking to legalize gambling and is searching for help. One of the three gaming groups that the
Vietnamese have approached is the London based Ladbrokes gaming group.
Although the talks are in the early stages, the government is very eager to instate a lottery based football betting exchange run by the government that they hope is some ways will begin to curb the widespread illegal gambling operations littering the state.
The chief executive officer of Ladbrokes, Chris Bell, has confirmed the talks between his company and the government in Vietnam.
First of all, he said that they have been present in China, where they have acted as consultants during the opening of Chinas first pool betting shops, and have help open other opportunities in Asia, like the new football lottery discussions going on in Vietnam which they are hoping to launch and have in place by next year.
Ladbrokes have been in talk with the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Committee and the football governing body of the organization. There are two other companies that could possibly partner the government; they are Singapore Pools, and SMS, an international data processing company.
The Vietnamese officials have already traveled to China recently to study the football lottery system in place there.
Soon they are hoping to have this system in place to crack down even harder on the illegal gambling rings and then to allow citizens to gamble legally.
