Church indicts Nun for Embezzelment
The former director of the Omaha Catholic Churchs Archdioceses Family Life Office has turned her self in to the local police station in Omaha on her own volition after a warrant was issued for her arrest.
The woman who is a nun, has worked for the Archdiocese in Omaha for nearly 20 years and is a trusted and respected figure in the Omaha community.
She faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a hefty 25000 dollar fine for embezzlement and fraud by using church funds for personal gambling debts, and gifts and airfare for travel.
The churchs suspicions grew and after an inside audit, it has been alleged that the nun has spent over 307,000 dollars of the churches funds including but no limited to, 81,000 dollars in cash advances for gambling, and 24,000 dollars in traveling costs, and amazing 33,000 in gifts and 31,000 in estimated spending on clothing and furniture.
She has been charged formally and was fired from her position in the church in January.
She has been released on her own recognizance and her attorney says that the charges stem from a disagreement about the ownership of the marriage preparation program which she helped develop.
The trial will soon be held and then afterwards there will be no doubt as to the severity of the charges and the situation within this small Midwestern town.
