Poker Club for Women

The Hot Damn Lucky Ladies Poker Club had its first Texas Holdem game with more than 40 women.

The Hot Damn Lucky Ladies Poker Club initiated its first poker game at a restaurant in Phoenix. More than 40 women participated in the Texas Holdem tournaments, many of them were novice poker players.

The Hot Damn Lucky Ladies Poker Club is a part of an expanding trend of women playing poker. The number of women who participates in online, casino or home poker games is growing constantly. According to Eric Morris, co-owner and publisher of Bluff magazine, almost a quarter of the poker players are women. Morris believes that the growing popularity of poker amongst women is linked to the mass media coverage of the game. He also notes that women poker pros such as Annie Duke might have an influence on the entrance of women to the poker world.

Maryann Morrison, who founded the first women only poker website, said that the men players approach towards women at poker tables changed since the number of women players grew. According to Morrison, she used to meet aggressive or patronizing behaviors when she played poker with men. Now, she said, their behavior is not apparent since the number of women players is not so rare.
