Cache Creek Cashes In
Close to 1200 workers at the Cache Creek Casino Resort in
California have struck their second union contract securing pay wages and freezing the health insurance premiums.
The Cache Creek in Yolo County, is the first Indian casino in California to gain a collective bargaining agreement with the unions three years ago and now it is the first to renew.
After completing the contract at Cache Creek, UNITE HERE which represent the workers in the local 49 union at Cache Creek is working on renegotiating other contracts in California and getting ready for other workers in other casinos to be potentially ready for a vote of representation later on this year.
The employees at Cache Creek received annual raises of up to 1 dollar and hour for up to 3 years and the casino workers make an hourly wage of nine to ten dollars an hour and also many of them receive tips. Workers pay only 20 dollars a month for personal healthcare and 40 dollars for themselves and a spouse and only 80 dollars a month for family coverage. Very inexpensive when it comes to healthcare in the US.
