Players and Cards
The game requires only 2 players using a standard 52 card deck. Sometimes due to the fast play of the game cards can get ruined so it is best to use an older deck that you do not necessarily mind being destroyed. Deal the deck equally between both players, 26 apiece.
The layout works with 5 stock piles in a row, the first containing 1 card and the 2 pile two cards and so on unto the fifth with 5. The top card of each pile will be face up while those underneath will be dealt face down. This leaves eleven cards in each players hand and they must not look at them, these are the speed cards.
The Layout
To play Speed each player acknowledges the others readiness and then the players shout speed and turn over their first speed card face up next to the other players speed card in between the two stock pile rows. These two cards will be played upon them the cards contained in the stock piles.
The players now simultaneously play as fast as they can, usually. The object is to get rid of your cards and your stock piles as fast as possible into the speed piles. Using only one hand and one card at a time tends to make it a little more difficult as well.
You can play a face up card from the top of one of your stock piles onto either speed pile. The play must be in sequence either up or down. Suits and color does not matter. Cards can also go around the world meaning a king can play on an ace and then a two on the ace.
If one of your stock piles has a card showing face down, flip it over as fast as you can to continue playing the maximum amount of cards you can. It is impossible to have more than five stock piles.
The Play
If a position is reached where neither player can play anymore cards, then the players shout Speed again and turn up the next speed spit card and place it on top of the speed pile they started. Play continues in the same manner as before.
If neither player can play and only one play has no speed cards left then the other player places a speed card on one of the speed piles, he can choose either pile, and must continue to play on that pile until they can make no more moves.
When one player runs out of stock cards, that player plays the last cards in his or her speed cards, and the player that runs out of speed cards and all of their cards wins.
